Son of Jacob and his first wife Rachel Ferree. He was born 1881 and died 1813. He
married Christina Kuykendall.
He worked with his father on Peter's Creek, Allegheny County and was known as a skilled
barrel maker.
When his father died in 1807 Joel became the unofficial head of the family in the
Pittsburg region. He did no longer work as a barrel maker or gunsmiths but became
business man, owned bank stocks and engaged in politics.
During the war of 1812 he was colonel and commanded the 1st Regiment, 2nd
Detachment of the Pennsylvania Militia. He became sick and died April 8, 1813 at
Zanesville, Ohio.
